Review on Geographical and Environmental studies about Syrdarya River Basin and Aral Sea
Abstract
The Syrdarya river basin is the second largest river basin in Central Asia, which flows into the Aral Sea. It is one of the main water sources for agriculture in the countries of this region. According to long-term data and publications, the analysis on geographical and ecological studies in the Syrdaria River and the Aral Sea
basin was carried out. The dynamics of publications by field of study was determined from 1923 to 1970 and from 1974 to 1990. The geographical affiliation and languages of publications from 1923 to 2016 were also visualized. In addition, GIS tools were used to define boundary and area of the Syrdarya river basin.
