Abstract

The paper focuses on GIS based modeling of precipitation-induced debris flows in three catchment areas in the Northern Tien Shan. In a first step, the spatial distribution of debris flows is computed by using the statistical certaintyfactor approach for slope-type processes and by a rule based approach of Zimmermann. for channel-type processes. In a second step, the output of the disposition models serves as initial points to calculate the flow path by using the 2-D approach of Gamma in combination with the runout-distance model approach of Perla.
